Baba Bajrangdasji Maharaj was a devotee of Lord Rama and Hanumana. It is heard that in his younger days he played the part of Bhakta Hanuman in Ramlila. The performance in the role was so perfect that the spectators felt that real Hanuman has come on the stage. Gifted with a melodious voice, Babaji could sing devotional songs charmingly and keep the audience spellbound as though they were in a trance. Babaji was tall with a strong and well-built body. He was graced with a brilliant face, which was indicative of his continence. It was not difficult for him to sit in a particular pose continuously for 24hrs. He had perfect control over the body and mind. A man of renunciation Babaji had no attachments. Endowed with extreme memory power he could recognize a person and remember his name even if he had seen him only once and that too years before.
The age-old saying is “Don’t bother about the source of a river or the ancestry of a saint. "Babaji was an Ayurvedic Physician. He possessed the special faculty of insigt to foreseen the future. By using this faculty Babaji assessed the condition of the patient. If he felt that there was hope for recovery he did not mind walking even long distance to treat a patient. There are instances when he used to go at midnight in critical cases.
Meditation before treatment was a practice followed by Babaji. The period of meditation was long or short according to the condition of the patient and the nature of the disease.
People had high faith in Babaji's treatment. When he was stationed at Nandawa they used to go over there from Chichot-Kheda to consult him even though the distance between the two places was 50km.
Babaji was spiritual giant and a saint of the highest order. He was well versed in Ramcharitmanasa and other Bhakti literature of Tulasi, Suradas and the like. He used to sing them with utmost devotion. He liked Kabir bhajans also. Whenever devotees of Kabir came to see him, he used to ask them to sing Kabir bhajans. Hearing the Bhajans, some time, he used to enter into trance. People from all walks of life approached him with all problems and they were returned with smiling faces.
The Ashram was open to all. Babaji received Sadhus of all cults with love and respect and provided them with food and shelter. He mixed with all types of people. In the company of childern he was a child and in the company of Sanyasis he was a Sanyasin. Though a Vaishnava he observed no difference between his cult and the cult of others and treated all alike.
Babaji viewed the life on this earth as a drama and advised all not to get entangled in it. He said, "Here in this drama nobody belongs to anybody. Possessions are also of no use since; when one leaves from here he can take nothing with him to the other world."
Babaji's advices were meaningful simple sentences:
"Fill the heart with devotion and compassion and remember the Lord's Name always."
"Hate the sin but not the sinner."
"You may scold a culprit as much as you like but never lay hands upon him."
"He who loves all equally is a man of true knowledge."
"He who has conquered anger and lust is a true conqueror."
"If you want to enjoy fire you must be able to put up with the smoke also."
"Ant and elephant both belong to one and the same Lord."
"It is always wiser and nicer to pretend ingnorance."
"Boy! Enough of saints and sages! Men are wanted. Try to be a man."
"He who is tempted not by the beauty of a woman is a true hero. He who loves all equally is a true man of knowledge. And he who has conquered anger is a true conquerer."
"Boy! I admire your frankness very much. I love the way you wear your heart upon your sleeve. But l want to know if you could censure yourself, too as severely as you do in other's case."
"Remember forever that all houses are yours; all sects are yours, all countries and states are yours. Share in joy as well as sorrow with others. Be as plain as water. Don't have any reservations, what so ever. Go on flowing, filling all pits and ditches."
"World is a big drama, One must not get entangled in it. In this drama of the world, though there are many amusements, yet none of them serve any purpose. Here nobody belongs to anybody. It is a great folly to regard anything as ours."
"Fill your heart with compassion and remember for ever and ever Lord Rama's name with all devotion;. all your possessions are useless, for, when you leave the world, nothing will accompany you"
